Good
Afternoon, Hello! Anyone out there? |
| Nisha |
Hi Doc! My
6-year-old son has got a sudden craving for sweets, not only
chocolates but also any sweet items. He also complains of stomachache
and has to rush to the toilet after each meal. Is it worms? |
| Dr
C.H. Asrani |
Yes it
could be worms, but the complaint of rushing to toilet after a meal
could mean amebic infection. Get stool check done and treat
accordingly. |
| Malika |
Do
antibiotics cause acidity? |
| Dr
C.H. Asrani |
Yes
antibiotics can cause acidity if taken on empty stomach. |
| Malika |
Can
acidity cause sleeplessness and dry throat? |
| Dr
C.H. Asrani |
Malika Yes
acidity can cause sleeplessness and vice versa and also acidity can
cause dry throat. |
| Malika |
Is there a
cure for these side effects? |
| Dr
C.H. Asrani |
Malika
these things will subside once you stop taking the drugs. Avoid
sleeping pills |
| Heena |
How do we
choose a good Gynaec? |
| Dr
C.H. Asrani |
Henna - If
you have delivered that should be a good gynec for you. If not happy
with that one ask your friends or your family physician. |
| Heena |
No I have
not delivered yet. |
| Dr
C.H. Asrani |
Then ask
your family physician or your friends. If looking for an Obstetrician,
i.e. for pregnancy and delivery - seek someone who will be available
in emergency |
| Nisha |
My
12-year-old daughter behaves well with others but just refuses to obey
any thing I say. I have a feeling she just loves to trouble me. Did I
bring her up wrongly? Her kid brother is quite an angel with
everybody. |
| Dr
C.H. Asrani |
Nisha was
your daughter a pampered child? |
| Nisha |
My
daughter was not pampered but my mother feels I was too strict with
her after her brother was born and so she has become rebellious |
| Dr
C.H. Asrani |
Nisha Your
mother could be right. Then she has got this due to sibling rivalry. |
| Nisha |
But she
loves her brother and doesn't fight with him or any such thing. They
share all their things. |
| Dr
C.H. Asrani |
Nisha I
said due to sibling rivalry. She identifies that your nature changed
after brother came along and is giving it back to you. You must now
take care and do not condemn or admonish her in front of others. Treat
her with respect due to her and u shall get it back. |
| Vishpala |
Can I also
come into your other questions? Sibling jealousy is common even
between dogs. Can I ask you about my dogs too? I got a little fellow
now, my first one' s son & the little one will not allow the
father to be petted. Barks and fights! So it is universal! |
| Dr
C.H. Asrani |
Yes! It is
survival instinct. |
| Carol
Dias |
Hello Dr.
I have a 2 and half-year-old son. I want to know what is the right age
to send him to school. Could you please help me? |
| Dr
C.H. Asrani |
Carol the
right age now depends on the rules of the school. Ideally he should
enter Primary at 51/2. That means Jr. KG at 3 and play school NOW. |
| Carol
Dias |
I have put
him in Nursery now. But I find his behavior changing. He cries
throughout the day and at night to he gets up in his sleep. He has
become very stubborn too. |
| Dr
C.H. Asrani |
Carol this
is an adjustment problem. Most kids go through this. He needs being
handled with kid gloves and will sail through this temporary phase. |
| Carol
Dias |
But the
moment he sees the school till he is brought out of the school, he
only cries. |
| Dr
C.H. Asrani |
Carol he
associates school with fear. Talk and explain to him that it is not
so. Tell him you all went to school. Even kids that age understand |
| Carol
Dias |
But how
long will it continue? |
| Dr
C.H. Asrani |
Depends on
how fast he makes friends. May take the whole play school. |
| Heena |
What are
the effects of thumb sucking? |
| Dr
C.H. Asrani |
Commonest
is protrusion of teeth. |
| Heena |
How to
manage a child with this habit? |
| Dr
C.H. Asrani |
There is
lot of matter on our site in this connection. Thumb sucking indicates
insecurity. Cause of his insecurity should be identified. Thumb
sucking child should not be condemned and punished but should be
rewarded for NOT sucking the thumb. Such a child needs a lot of care,
encouragement and concern from the parents. |
| Heena |
When
should you start brushing your newborn? |
| Dr
C.H. Asrani |
You mean
brushing his teeth or hair? |
| Heena |
Teeth? |
| Dr
C.H. Asrani |
Teeth
should be brushed as soon as they appear but gums should be brushed
before that. |
