Good
Afternoon, Hello! Anyone out there? |
| Rani |
Doctor
tell us about Hepatitis A vaccine. Should we give it or not? |
| Dr
Aabha Nagral |
Hepatitis
A vaccine may be given in early childhood though it is not recommended
as a compulsory vaccine. This is because; most individuals in India
would be naturally exposed to the virus and be protected from it by
the age of 15 yrs. |
| Smita |
Hi! My
child is 6 months old has constipation. Doctor says Liver is
weak. True? |
| Dr
Aabha Nagral |
No! The
liver does not directly control bowel movement. Constipation is more
often seen due to deficiency of fibre in diet and lack of fluid and
water intake |
| Smita |
Doctor,
Can you recommend something beside figs? |
| Dr
Aabha Nagral |
Papaya and
guava do wonders for the bowel movement. Also increase green leafy
vegetables and raisins. |
| Priya |
Can
vaccine be given if the child has slight illness? |
| Dr
Aabha Nagral |
Which
vaccine? |
| Priya |
Hepatitis
B second dose |
| Dr
Aabha Nagral |
Mild cough
and cold - you can give the vaccine. Avoid if Fever is present |
| Harsha |
Doctor 3
doses of Hepatitis B vaccine protect for life? |
| Dr
Aabha Nagral |
It is not
yet definitely proven. You may give a booster dose every 5 yrs. People
with lower immunity require more booster doses |

Doctor my
son 8 yrs old had jaundice 6 months ago. We didn't do any test then.
Is it required now to see if he is fully all right?. |
| Dr
Aabha Nagral |
You may
get a liver profile done. He most probably had an attack of acute
Hepatitis A. If these tests are normal you need not do anything
further. |
| Sonia
Kachroo |
Can I give
him non-veg item? |
| Dr
Aabha Nagral |
Yes Sonia
you can |
| Sandhya |
What
prevention is available for hepatitis right now?. |
| Dr
Aabha Nagral |
Sandhya
there are 5 types of Hepatitis viruses A-E. The vaccines are available
for A and B. A and E type can be prevented by avoiding eating outside
and drinking sugarcane juice. Give boiled water as far as possible.
Infected needles spread the other viruses. A Hepatitis B Positive
child can transmit the infection to other children in the family
through saliva. So mouthing of toys should be avoided. Hepatitis B can
be transmitted sexually - use condoms. Positive pregnant women should
vaccinate child at birth.. |
| Sandhya |
But
vaccines are available only for A&B What about the rest? |
| Dr
Aabha Nagral |
Sandhya,
In C same precautions as B. No specific vaccine |
| Priya |
If a child
has fever for a day, we give crocin drops after consulting the doctor
next day there is no fever, third day it appears again. Is there any
cause for concern? |
| Dr
Aabha Nagral |
Priya,

Hi Deepa.
Is there an abscess in the liver? If so, it is caused by a parasite
called E-Histolytica, which is spread by contaminated food and water. |
